2009 Human Trafficking Summer Internship


The National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families is a Christian nonprofit organization established in 1983.  We work to educate the Christian community on biblical sexual ethics, to encourage sexual purity, and to equip Christians with information and tools to protect the vulnerable and restore the broken.

The National Coalition is looking for three energetic and emerging leaders to participate in a ten-week program designed to give undergraduate students the opportunity to join in our work of protecting the vulnerable from trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation by developing educational materials, awareness campaigns, and strategic partnerships.  This internship may be particularly attractive to students contemplating careers in social work, law, criminal justice, or missions.

Education
Candidates must be between 18 and 23 years of age and currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a college or university.

Christian Faith
Candidates must be in agreement with the Apostles’ Creed and possess a mature Christian faith.

Program Details
  • Training: Interns will participate in training designed to introduce them to the National Coalition’s history, spiritual foundations, and strategies, and to educate them on the basics of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
  • Program Duration/Work Hours: The ten-week internship program will commence June 15 and conclude August 21.  Interns will be expected to work forty-hour weeks at the National Coalition’s headquarters in Cincinnati.
  • Outreach:  Interns will have multiple public speaking opportunities to educate congregations and youth groups about the sex trafficking issue and their commitment to eradicating it.
  • Professional Development: The internship program will include periodic seminars and meetings with academics, clergy, and other professionals on topics such as spiritual growth, social activism, leadership, education/career planning, and public speaking.
  • Prayer: Interns will join with National Coalition staff for daily prayer.  Also, interns will participate in a weekend retreat to join with other like-minded believers in prayer, fellowship, and worship.
  • Travel: Plans are being made for interns to travel with National Coalition staff to Washington, D.C. and Atlanta to attend trafficking briefings by legislators, government agency personnel, and human rights workers.
Compensation
Interns will be paid $10/hour.  Travel, lodging, and meal expenses will be covered for work-related trips.
