  Community Defense Act

Statewide Regulation of Sexually Oriented Businesses (SOBs)

"Community Defense Act" (SB 514), would institute statewide regulation of Sexually Oriented Businesses.

Currently, small towns are left to fend for themselves when a Sexually Oriented Business moves into town to set up shop. If these towns attempt to place constitutional restrictions upon these Sexually Oriented Businesses, such as where they may locate or how late they may operate, communities can find themselves slapped with high-dollar lawsuits that they cannot afford – but that the “adult” entertainment industry can.

Many communities simply do not have the resources to litigate these costly court battles, so the mere threat of legal action suffices to scare them into submission regardless of the validity of the suit.

The "Community Defense Act" SB 514 would protect Kansas communities by:

·         Mandating midnight closings for Sexually Oriented Businesses;

·         Instituting standoff distance requirements from churches, schools, and homes;

·         Banning totally nude dancing; and

·         Requiring dancers to remain six feet away from patrons.

"The Community Defense Act" has been approved by the Judiciary Committee in the Kansas House of Representatives.  Now is the time to moblize Kansas Citizens because the porn shop and strip club industry is already mobilized to fight against this bill.

The Community Defense Act will promote safe communities in Kansas by imposing constitutional time, place and manner regulations on existing and future Sexually Oriented Businesses thereby reducing the negative secondary effects on our communities.

By signing the Petition on Internet or a written copy you will be urging elected officials to vote in support of a constitutionally sound Sexually Oriented Business (SOB) Bill regulating existing and future SOBs with Kansas. You will also be kept informed by email on the progress of "The Community Defense Act".

Negative secondary effects include increased criminal activity, increased sexually transmitted diseases, decreased property values, increased drug trafficking and general blight. These proven negative secondary effects of Sexually Oriented Businesses on communities continue to be documented and upheld by the courts.
