Church Outreach

The church and other faith groups are not immune to the problem of pornography and sexual victimization. In a recent study conducted of 2,000 self-defined religious men, including clergy, Archibald Hart (1994) estimated that 15.5 percent of the men and 6.8 percent of the clergy continue to masturbate to pornography following marriage (p. 95). Another Christian Psychologist, Mark Laaser (1992), estimated that 10 percent of Christian men are sexually addicted or compulsive in their sexual behavior.

The National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families seeks to come alongside church leaders to help protect their church members by offering consultation, materials and training.

How can the Church Outreach Program assist you and your congregation?

  • Provide in depth information, training and consultation to the church pastor and leaders on the issue of sexual integrity. This includes information on the harms of pornography, the impact of sexual sin on individual lives and on families, the dangers and solutions on the Internet, and response to those who's lives have been devastated by sexual sin.

  • Provide resources to help support your education effort in your church, such as informational pamphlets and support group guides.

  • The National Coalition runs a toll-free HelpLine staffed by a Christian counselor who provides confidential counseling, information and assistance.

Examples of Consulting and Training/Speaking services:

  • Consulting with pastor and church leaders on how to utilize existing programming within the church to educate regarding sexual integrity

  • Consulting following a crisis within the church such as a fall of a church leader

  • Training small group leaders, Sunday School teachers, board members or staff members

  • Seminars for members or community: Safe Surfing the 'Net, Sex Addiction, The Messages (and Myths!) of Pornography
